About Us
Leaders and Innovators Grown Here
At PS349, we are nurturing the next generation of leaders and innovators through hands-on learning, enrichment experiences, and opportunities for meaningful engagement with community organizations. We serve students in grades Pre-K-5 from our neighborhood in Jamaica Queens (District 28) and from across the Five Boroughs. Here, you’ll find:
-
A warm and welcoming environment for learning
-
Special programs and partnerships made available through our magnet grant
-
A focus on academic excellence and leadership opportunities for all students
Our History
We opened our doors to students in Pre-K and Kindergarten in September of 2015. Since then, we’ve grown to include a new grade each year, serving a diverse population of more than 600 students. In 2021, we will celebrate our first graduating 5th-grade class.
Nurturing Equity and Inclusion
Wherever you are from, whatever your background, whatever languages you speak, you and your child are welcome here. We strive to make every child feel safe, at home, and supported. We have teachers and staff members who speak multiple languages. In addition, you will find plenty of support for English Learners and families whose first language is not English.
Leadership and Innovation Through STEAM
Our magnet theme is Leadership and Innovation Through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math). We are laying the foundation for college and career opportunities in the sciences, arts, technology, business, public service, and beyond. Our programs are carefully designed to develop leadership skills, critical thinking, communication skills, and creativity. Our magnet grant supports:
-
Project-based learning opportunities that integrate academic curriculum with real-world problems and hands-on, student-led STEAM activities.
-
Leadership opportunities grounded in The Leader in Me and the 7 Habits of Happy Kids.
-
A technology-infused curriculum supported by a 1:1 technology program for students in grades Pre-K – 5 and state-of-the-art technology in every classroom.
-
Partnerships and residencies with community organizations that bring music and the arts into the classroom and our after-school programs.
-
Special facilities including our music and keyboarding studio, hydroponics lab, art studio, and “gymnatorium.”
-
Additional training and professional development opportunities for our dedicated, caring, and highly qualified teachers.
